In America’s original Indian Territory
The American Indian Cultural Center and Museum (AICCM) is an interactive cultural center where each visitor experiences a living, evolving and dynamic presentation of Oklahoma’s rich history and Native American culture. The story – woven together throughout the Center by way of song, art, elements of earth and interaction with people – conveys the presence of more than 39 tribes in one small area of geography. Oklahoma’s status as a mecca for Indian culture is enhanced by the AICCM – creating the possibility of an estimated $2.7 billion economic impact over 20 years.
Its celebration of the rich Native American culture in our state brings to life the moments, both tragic and triumphant, throughout the journey to today. It’s more than just a place - it’s a time, in which stories and histories meet and begin to be redefined, remaining firmly rooted in respect for the past, and embracing the possibilities of tomorrow.
Every architectural exhibit and educational space conveys another hue and dimension in the rich cultural tapestry of our state and its people – reaching beyond race, nationality and origin to the heart of each of us who share a common history.
A Place to Match a Purpose
The vision is simple in statement, yet vast in its intent: to celebrate the collective histories and contemporary cultural expressions unique to Oklahoma. Visitors of all ages experience state-of-the-art exhibits, participate in hands-on educational programs, hear first-hand accounts in the many dynamic theaters, and are immersed in cultural demonstrations and activities. Changing exhibitions and programs connect young people to traditions and histories that influence contemporary life, while nurturing scholarship and exploration. Individual and collective components of AICCM provide connecting points to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
The educational opportunities presented here are a dynamic collaboration between today’s most forward thinking methods and technologies and our most honored sacred traditions – each significant, each relevant…and each coming together to enhance the other.
